As mentioned, De Vlotbrug is located on the border between city and country. Alkmaar is the nearest city. A beautiful city with a rich history. Of course known for the cheese market, but also at the top of the top ten shopping cities in the Netherlands and the municipality with the most windmills. The city offers plenty of opportunities to entertain you for a few days, wherever your interest lies.
On the east side of the city you will find West Friesland and the large reclaimed land such as Beemster and Schermer. The influence of humans has created a fascinating polder landscape here in recent centuries. Large parts of these are still in original condition, such as the Eilandspolder near De Rijp.
On the west side is Kennemerland, characterized by forests and wide dunes that end at the coast. Go to Schoorl aan Zee, a beach that can only be reached on foot or by bike. Not only the beach but also the trip there is great.
