There is plenty of nature in the vicinity of De Vlotbrug. Natural dune and forest where the visitor centers can help you on your way to discover these areas. There are also various areas that have been given back to nature such as the Kleimeer.

This is a polder, 2½ km from De Vlotbrug, which has largely retained its original shape from 1564 and is now a bird paradise. Many endangered bird species, such as the bittern, black crowned heron, brown harrier, bluethroat and ruff are still found here.

Bergen’s water storage is about a kilometer from De Vlotbrug and can only be reached on foot. This recently constructed area is relatively unknown even to residents, but is a refuge for all sorts of water birds during wet periods.
